I absolutely adore tartan! So I’ve made a small range of tartan fascinators, out of my favourite colours. Tartan originate from the clans of Scotland and Ireland and each tartan belongs to a family name. I love the dresses from the 19th Century when tartan became very popular, thanks to Queen Victoria, who adored the highland tartans and had her own designed. Victoria was the fashion icon of her day and when the Queen decided on a style for the season all the British fashion houses adopted the fashion too. Tartan has been in and out of fashion through the 20th Century. In the 50s it was very popular and then by the 1970s Vivianne Westwood had created the Punk style and even had her own tartan created.
The fascinators I’ve created are only small pieces, to start with then I’ll start creating more pieces. The colder months are coming, so I think this is a great direction to go. I choose to make the little cocktail hats in different colours. From left to right, in black, blue or red. I’m also open to ideas and if you would like a personalised head piece, send me an email and I’ll see what I can do!
